Principal’s Message

Love…bears all things, believes all things, endures all things.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

The cold winds of winter continue as we open this month to many events celebrating who we are as Catholics and the “Good News” that the students of Saint Matthias School are growing daily in faith and knowledge.  February 1st through 3rd will continue our celebration of Catholic Schools Week.  We will welcome prospective and current families at our open house, be entertained by Caravan Puppets on Student Appreciation Day, and honor our faculty with a luncheon sponsored by the St. Matthias Educational Foundation.  A special thank you goes to all who help to make our week a success.  Every volunteer is important whether you’re serving coffee, directing school tours, helping with a pizza lunch, or sharing the “good news” about our school throughout the neighborhood.

Progress Reports will be distributed on Feb. 15th.  This signals the halfway point of this school year.  Please review these reports very carefully and schedule an appointment with your child’s teachers if you have concerns.  (This progress report will clearly indicate if your child’s work is below grade level.  This would be a serious warning that intervention is necessary for promotion in June.)  The second trimester report cards will be distributed on March 17th.

We congratulate our Class of 2017 on their scholarships and awards to Catholic High Schools.  This year’s total has topped $235,000!

Our HSA committees continue to form.  Plans are underway for our indoor carnival on Mar. 21st.  This event is always a favorite and is a great way to build school spirit.  The success of the event depends on the willingness of parents and grandparents to volunteer to help on Carnival Day.  If you haven’t joined us for a school event this year, please consider taking a day away from your regular responsibilities to share this event with the school family.  You’ll have a great time and make new friends.  It’s a proven fact that students excel when their parents volunteer in their school.  Join us and “catch the spirit”!

Registration has begun for the 2017-18 school year.  Please carefully read the information sent home through your child’s folder.  If you have a child to register that does not currently attend our school, it is very important that you contact the office to reserve a seat.  Currently we have space in most classes, but seats fill rapidly-especially Pre-K and Kindergarten.

God bless you for your cooperation and for your gift of Catholic Education to your child…It’s a treasure that lasts a lifetime!
