Principal’s Message

“In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high will break upon us… to guide our feet into the way of peace.” [Luke 1:78-9]
Happy New Year! May 2018 be filled with laughter and joy for you and those you love. And may we be ever mindful of the many blessings we share here at St. Matthias Catholic Academy.

The month of January brings us to the halfway point in our school year. The students have reviewed their lessons from the past and have gained new knowledge on a daily basis. We’ve learned that Jesus is a miracle worker and that He walks with us through the events of each day. We’ve learned about a sloth named Velcro, wrote narratives and poems, made music and ate pumpkin pancakes and homegrown mushrooms! We’ve been busy the past four months and we look to the future filled with hope and excitement.

Our academy board is hard at work behind the scenes to secure the mission of SMCA. We have completed most of the work of the transition from school to academy. Now we are setting our sights on the future. Marketing materials are being updated and registration has begun for nursery, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten. If you have a child of age for these classes for 2018-2019, make sure you contact Mrs. Rios in our office. A registration fee will secure the seat. Classes can fill quickly. If you have friends or neighbors interested in registration, please have them reach out to the office in January.

The academy board is also working on tuition rates for next school year. They are doing their best to control costs. We need your help. Register early so we have firm numbers to use for planning. Stay current on your tuition payments and register in January and February for financial aid for next school year. We will also be looking to increase our volunteers to make fundraising and spirit events even more successful. We need everyone’s involvement.

January ends with the celebration of Catholic Schools’ Week 2018. We have planned a week of special events including our opening liturgy on Jan. 28th followed by an academic open house and our Expo entitled “The Psalms”. The week includes student appreciation day, special person’s day, and teacher appreciation day. A detailed schedule of events will be sent through each student’s folder, can be viewed on our web calendar, and is available at the school office. We look forward to your family’s participation! Open registration for 2018-2019 will begin during this week, as well. Tell your neighbors and friends about our great school!

Our Christmas Shows were a tremendous success. This wouldn’t have been possible without the selfless efforts of our show committee under the leadership of Liz Esteves. Our school parents, past and present, were instrumental in coordinating raffles, kitchen sales, and ticket distributions. Others worked tirelessly behind the scenes preparing tickets, programs, and student handouts. Combine their efforts with all who helped with decorating, orchestrating the performances, and the clean up, and you have the perfect example of teamwork benefiting our children. Thank you to all who made this event so special!
