Principal’s Message

Love…bears all things, believes all things, endures all things.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7

The cold winds of winter continue as we open this month to many events celebrating who we are as Catholics and the “Good News” that the students of Saint Matthias Catholic Academy are growing daily in faith and knowledge. February 1st and 2nd continue our celebration of Catholic Schools Week. Students and faculty will learn about weather and other science topics on Student Appreciation Day through assemblies by The Franklin Institute and Science Baby. We will honor our faculty with a luncheon on Teachers’ Appreciation Day. The events on February 1st and 2nd are sponsored by the St. Matthias Educational Foundation. Please join me in thanking the Foundation Board for their continuing support of our academy community. A special “thank you” goes to all who helped to make our week a success. Every volunteer is important whether you’re serving coffee, directing school tours, helping with a pizza lunch, or sharing the “good news” about our school throughout the neighborhood.

Progress Reports will be distributed on Feb. 14th. This signals the halfway point of this school year. Please review these reports very carefully and schedule an appointment with your child’s teachers if you have concerns. (The second trimester progress report will clearly indicate if your child’s work is below grade level. This would be a serious warning that intervention is necessary for promotion in June.) The next report cards will be distributed on March 16th.

Our HAA committees continue to form. Plans are underway for our indoor Winter Carnival on Mar. 13th. This event is always a favorite and is a great way to build school spirit. The success of the event depends on the willingness of parents and grandparents to volunteer to help on Carnival Day. If you haven’t joined us for a school event this year, please consider taking a day away from your regular responsibilities to share this event with the school family. You’ll have a great time and make new friends. It’s a proven fact that students excel when their parents volunteer in their school. Join us and “catch the spirit”!

Registration has begun for the 2018-19 school year. Please carefully read the information sent home through your child’s folder. If you have a child to register that does not currently attend our school, it is very important that you contact the office to reserve a seat. Currently we have space in most classes, but seats fill rapidly. Remember to send in your registration fee and keep your tuition account current to avoid losing your seat for September.

God bless you for your cooperation and for your gift of Catholic Education to your child…It’s a treasure that lasts a lifetime!
