Principal’s Message

“Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.”

Job 37:14

We’ve finished our first month of school and have settled back into our school routines. Getting used to new teachers, classmates, and schedules can be challenging. We’ve done well so far, and we’re on the road to success.
I’m sure you’ve noticed all of the building maintenance that has been accomplished since June. The newly painted gym is wonderful. Emergency stairs at the gym exits on the driveway side have been repaired and our ironwork has been freshly painted. Two interior stairwells have also been repainted including the trim. We are grateful to our academy board and maintenance crew for making our facilities a priority.

Our Sun Works Hydroponic Lab is complete and planting has begun. We are so excited about this new addition. Mrs. DiRico, Mrs. Nikolic, and Mr. Agron have begun 10 weeks of training. During this time, classes will assist the teachers in getting our first planting cycle underway. We expect to be able to showcase our lab during Catholic Schools Week in January with a harvest of fresh vegetables for you to taste and enjoy. We will make sure to share our progress with you on a monthly basis. We are so proud to be the first private, elementary school in the New York Area to house a Sun Works Hydroponic Lab! Thank you to our donors and academy board for making this possible.

The annual candy sale is off to a great start! This is our largest fundraiser and your participation goes a long way in helping us meet our fundraising goal. Remember that classes earn a spring movie & snack when they reach 100% of their goal. In addition, NUT cards are earned for every box/donation. Our sale ends on October 15th. Only monies collected by this date can be counted toward the class total.

Our music programs are set to begin. Students across the grades have the opportunity to participate in school band or Fingers in Motion keyboard lessons. Please speak to the office assistants for more information or to register your child. Our Children’s Choir has grown again! I hope you can attend a school Mass to hear our wonderful choir, made up of students from grades 3 to 8, join their voices in praise of our Lord. We are thankful for the direction of Mr. Frank, vocal support from Mr. Powis, and supervision provided by Mrs. Moreno.

This month’s calendar includes the important standardized testing of grades 3 to 8. Please make sure your child attends school on these testing days as their progress is part of their permanent school record. Also, this month, we will be celebrating Halloween. Check the special schedules for October 19th. Parties for preK to gr 5 take place on this day. Consider signing up to volunteer for a party; it will qualify for part of your ten hour requirement. Please understand that if you are an accompanying parent for our youngest students, your presence cannot count toward volunteer hours.

The Parish Festival held on September 22 was a huge success and a great way to showcase the diversity of our parish and academy. Thank you to the faculty and parents who worked this event. We hope this will become an annual celebration.

Please check the calendar for other announcements and events during this month. Enjoy the first weeks of autumn as the colors of the season paint our neighborhoods with rich yellows and reds!
