St. Matthias School collects empty inkjet and laser printer cartridges
to reduce landfill waste and earn money for the school's technology program. This fundraiser costs
nothing except our efforts and persistence.
- Please help expand the program. Publicize it to everyone you know.
See the list of participating businesses. Give the single-use inkjet envelopes to
co-workers, friends, or local businesses. Envelopes are bar-coded with the school's account number.
Place an empty inkjet cartridge in the envelope, and drop it in the mailbox! Our school earns money
for this return. Additional envelopes are available from the Home School Office, or can be requested
through your child's folder. Signing up businesses can significantly add to our volume!
- Ask your employer for empty cartridges. Many businesses discard
cartridges. You may bring collection materials to them, or we can request the recycling company to
forward postage-paid materials directly.
- Cartridges can be collected anywhere in the continental USA. We
can request that the recycling company send postage-paid collection materials, bar-coded with the
school's account number, to distant businesses or residences.
- Deposit cartridges you bring to school in collection bins located
by the Home School Office. Keep inkjet and laser cartridges separate as they ship to different
addresses. Place the cartridges in plastic bags to prevent stains.
- Use the form to request that a
new participant be added to the program, or to request
collection materials. We want to keep a complete list of participants
so we can properly thank them.
- We are not the only ones who benefit; the recycling company donates 5% of their company's
proceeds to a camp for children with heart disease.
The nine participants on the list represent the efforts of 5 individuals. Consider the potential
if everyone could sign up 5 participants. The school may earn up to $20,000 annually!! If you
have questions, email
or send a note through your child's folder. Thank you for your support.

Frequently Asked Questions about Printer Cartridge Recycling
How do I approach a business?
- Call or drop by and introduce yourself as a parent/faculty member of the school.
- Explain that the school participates in printer cartridge recycling, and that each
recyclable cartridge earns money for the school's technology program.
- Stress that the program is simple, costs them nothing, and takes a small amount of
time. Laser and inkjet cartridges must be separated.
- There are three types of collection materials. A laser carton holds 6 cartridges, an
inkjet carton holds 40 cartridges, and there are single-use envelopes for inkjet cartridges.
Depending on the volume, we can request materials to be sent directly to them. If all they
require are single-use envelopes, you can either drop them there or we can mail them.
- When a carton is full, the participant calls Fed-Ex Ground and a free pickup is
arranged.
- Single-use envelopes are simply sealed and dropped in the mail box.
What if a business requests a letter about the program?
- Obtain the contact information/address and let us know. We will forward a letter
explaining the program.
How does a participant obtain additional collection materials?
- If the volume of laser cartridges is at least 6 cartridges monthly or every other month, we
can request that the recycling company set them up on an automatic replenishment program.
- Inkjet cartons are automatically replaced when a full box is received by the recycling
company.
- Unless the participant has a need for 50 single-use envelopes at a time, we can supply a
smaller number. You simply need to inform us either by using the form
(new participant or more supplies)
or sending an
.
- A participant can also order materials directly from the recycling vendor, providing it is a
minimum quantity which is specified on the vendor's site. They must
specify that they participate with St. Matthias School in Ridgewood, NY, in order for the school
to be credited with the returns. The vendor is
Recycle Free Inc.
